How I Turned Pressure into Success | TWES 2024

I’m thrilled to share a piece of my story with you, a tale that I hope will resonate with many of you, as it’s a journey through life’s struggles and triumphs—a narrative I believe is not unique to me, but one that we all navigate in our own ways.

Initially, I considered diving straight into the professional insights I’ve gained as a coach, discussing the strategies I’ve shared with my clients. But then, it struck me that sharing my personal story might be a more powerful starting point. After all, it’s the fabric of our experiences that shapes us into who we are and what we become.

My life began in London, under circumstances that seemed to defy the odds. My mother, against medical advice due to health concerns, welcomed me into the world—a testament to the determination that would come to define both of our lives. Shortly after my birth, my family relocated to Mexico, where I was raised amidst the vibrant culture of Guadalajara and Mexico City.

From an early age, I was privy to the strength and resilience of the women in my life, particularly my mother and grandmothers. Their influence was profound, shaping my understanding of what it means to persevere and thrive against adversity.

One pivotal moment came when my mother was offered a career-defining job in Mexico City, requiring her to commute by plane daily. Initially hesitant, she was persuaded by my father to seize the opportunity, a decision that would set the stage for her to become a successful marketing director and later, a trailblazer in the male-dominated printing industry.

Throughout my childhood, I attended a British school in Mexico City, which exposed me to a melting pot of cultures and perspectives, fostering my critical thinking and a deep appreciation for diversity. However, life took a sudden, somber turn when my father passed away at the young age of 35. His passing was a shock to our family, but it also revealed the incredible fortitude of my mother as she navigated the challenges of single parenthood and her burgeoning business.

As I grew older, my own resilience was tested through various personal trials, including a difficult breakup during my university years in Miami. It was in these moments that I learned the importance of being strong, confident, and focused—qualities that have served me well throughout my life.

After completing my studies in psychology and business management, I embarked on a career that allowed me to explore my fascination with human behavior. Initially working as a psychotherapist with juvenile delinquents and their families, I later transitioned into business coaching, where I found a passion for helping others navigate the complexities of life and business.

My journey has been marked by continuous learning and adaptation. I’ve faced personal challenges, including my eldest son’s diagnosis with epilepsy and my own experiences with separation and becoming the primary breadwinner. More recently, as my mother courageously battles cancer, I’ve taken on the role of supporting her and my stepfather’s business while managing my own.

Through it all, I’ve come to realize the importance of having clear goals, a strong support system, and a plan to navigate life’s pressures. I’ve learned to prioritize my health, family, and business—the “holy trilogy” that guides my every decision.

So, what can you take away from my story? First, reflect on the pivotal moments in your life that have shaped you. Identify your strengths and the lessons you’ve learned. Then, set clear goals for where you want to go and make a plan to get there. Surround yourself with a support system that offers different perspectives and encouragement. And remember, it’s okay to take a step back to rest or seek solace in nature when the weight of the world feels too heavy.

Life will inevitably throw curveballs your way, but with resilience, focus, and the support of those around you, you can thrive through the pressure. Remember, everything has a solution except death. No matter how daunting the challenge, there is always a way forward.

Thank you for allowing me to share my journey with you. May it inspire you to reflect on your own path and find the strength to push through adversity, just as I have.
